National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Chief Peter Laviña has resigned from his position.
Lavina was a campaign Spokesperson of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte in 2016.
In his official social media account, Laviña announced his resignation.
Laviña mentioned that what prompted hin to resign is the allegations against him of receiving bribe from the agency’s contractors.
Lavina confirmed with DZRH News that he submitted on Tuesday his resignation letter to Pres. Duterte and last February 15 was his last day as NIA Chief.
However, Laviña strongly denies the accusations, he said that the decision was made for the sake of ‘delicadeza’ and to save the President and the NIA’s image.
Malacanang confirmed that Pres. Duterte accepted Laviña’s resignation and Ric Visaya will replace him as NIA Chief.
