The Philippine National Women’s Basketball team failed to secure a win in the first day of the FIBA 3×3 World in the Philippine Arena, Bulacan.
During their first game in the tournament, Perlas Pilipinas lost to the Netherlands, 21-11.
The Netherlands, which seeded fourth, was led by Karin Kujit with nine points and Jacobine Klerx who scored seven points.
While, Janine Pontejos gave six points and Afril Bernardino finished with four points for the Philippine squad, who committed a total of seven fouls in the game.
The debuting Philippine squad also lost their next game against Germany, 12-10.
Luana Rodefield, who shot the game-winning two points, and Laura Zdravevska each registered four points for Germany, which is seeded 11th in the tournament.
Bernadino scored six points in order to carry the Philippines during the game.
Currently, Philippines is at the bottom of their group’s standing after dropping to a 0-2 win-loss record, but the home team will have the chance to recover in their next two games on June 10 against Spain and Hungary.
Only the top two teams per group will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament set on June 12.
