Police Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula of Police Regional Office 1 was quick to clarify his side after his name was dragged by La Union Rep. Sandra Eriguel in her husband’s death.
According to Eriguel, her husband, former Rep. Eufranio Eriguel, was killed because Sapitula pulled out his police security.
Sapitula said that he did not remove any police security from the late solon, because the truth is, the former congressman was no longer entitled to a police security. They only give security to incumbent government officials.
The two policemen allegedly watching over the slain former official were assigned to his daughter, Mayor Stefanie Anne Eriguel of Agoo and to his wife, Rep. Eriguel.
The said policemen also came from the local police and not from the PSPG.
The two police officers were pulled out because they had to fulfill their election duties, as per the order of President Rodrigo Duterte and Police Chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde during the Barangay and SK elections.
Aside from Eriguel no longer in power, he was also included in the narco list of President Duterte.
Sapitula meanwhile said that instead of blaming the police, the lady solon should just cooperate with them in order to resolve her husband’s death as soon as possible.
The suspect, Felizardo Villanueva has been charged with another count of murder, because aside Eriguel, Villanueva also shot Eriguel’s bodyguard who died while receiving treatment in the hospital recently.
Four have been confirmed dead from the said incident which happened on May 12 in Brgy. Capas, Agoo, La Union, a few days before the May 14 elections.
