Malacanang vehemently denies Vice President Jejomar Binay’s claim that some of the members of the Aquino Cabinet are already doing premature campaigning.
According to Presidential Spokesman Secretary Edwin Lacierda said that projects being constructed by the different branches of the government can’t be considered as campaigning.
Also, the distribution of patrol jeeps and projects of DILG Secretary Mar Roxas to local governments are not considered as early campaigning because it’s part of his job.
However, Lacierda turned the tables to VP Binay by asking the same question.
“And who’s campaigning? Who’s campaigning? I mean, we are working. “He(Binay) has spoken in the context of he is running square. But like I said, we have a different view of what government is doing. What he considers campaigning, we consider as working for the continuity of daang matuwid. Hindi pa tapos ang daang matuwid. Dapat ipagpatuloy ang mga ginagawa natin.”
The Presidential Spokesman was referring to the time the Vice President went around the country, providing wheelchairs, land titles and senior citizens packages.
The Vise President is part of the President’s Cabinet and he’s spending the people’s money in providing public service.
Lacierda insisted that Binay knows that the administration is transparent with how it spends the public funds because everything is found in the government’s website and they follow the order of President Aquino to use the public’s fund in the right way.
“If you want to see if government funds are being used properly, you can compare the fund usage as vis-à-vis the posted 2015 budget. So it’s not very difficult for him(Binay) to provide us details if such funding are being used for campaign.”
