Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo revealed on Thursday, July 11, that at least 50 officials at the Bureau of Customs are facing dismissal or administrative charges due to their involvement in corrupt activities.
“From what I gathered, mga 72 yata ang tatanggalin niya or facing administrative charges – ganoon kadami! Either 72 or 62, hindi ko na malaman ang eksaktong number,” Panelo said during a press briefing in Malacanang.
“Basta marami – mahigit singkuwenta, less than 100,” the Palace official added.
Panelo said that the investigation on the Customs officials is still ongoing and that President Rodrigo Duterte will release all the details in the following days.
He added that they started the probe over certain BOC officials due to complaints received by Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero regarding anomalies within the agency.
In an earlier statement, Panelo revealed that President Duterte directed the freezing of several high-ranking Customs officials and employees because of the administrative and criminal charges they’re facing because of their alleged involvement in unlawful activities.
