Malacañang confirmed reports on Thursday that Presidential Communications and Strategic Planning Secretary Ramon “Ricky” Carandang has quit his palace job.
President Benigno Aquino III accepted Carandang’s resignation two days ago, effectively on December 13, 2013.
Secretary Carandang thanked the President for the chance to serve the administration and the country. The President also thanked Carandang for his service to the country.
Carandang’s term of service came during the eventful first half of the Aquino presidency, where he worked behind the scenes and before the cameras to do his part to communicate the President’s message.
According to reports, Carandang intended to resign after President Aquino reportedly expressed dismay on his performance as head of the communications group.
In a press conference, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda referred to Carandang’s resignation as a “departure from public service”, perhaps, a return to the private sector for the former broadcast journalist.
Carandang was an anchor for ABS-CBN Network and helped in Aquino’s 2010 Presidential campaign.
Following Secretary Carandang’s departure from public service, Undersecretary Manolo Quezon, as the most senior official of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) will oversee the office’s operations temporarily. (with Karlos Kastrillo)
