Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo congratulated the organizers, performers, volunteers, and everyone involved in the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games held last Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Panelo said on Sunday, Dec. 1, that the event demonstrated the redoubtable ability of the Philippines to host the biggest sporting event in the world and entertain foreign guests with the kind of merriment that we Filipinos excel and are famous for.
“The opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games was a sight to behold,” the Panelo said in a statement.
“Such a delight to watch a night where all Filipinos, regardless of age, social or political status and location, went in droves to show their support to the country’s hosting of the 30th SEA Games,” he added.
Panelo said that the opening ceremony set the bar high for prospective hosts of international sporting events.
The Palace spokesperson also hopes that the ‘ event extraordinaire’ sets the tone for the handling of the 30th SEA Games ‘until our foreign guests leave the country, bringing with them beautiful memories forever etched in their hearts’.
“Once again, the Filipino nation rose to the challenge and exhibited before the world the cultural genius of the Filipino and the best of Filipino talent giving world-class performances of our singers and dancers with impressive stage design and production, including the cauldron lighting ceremony, as well as the mesmerizing fireworks display,” Panelo said.
“We felt the Filipino pride that exuded and reverberated inside the biggest coliseum as our countrymen cheered the entry to the stage of the Philippine delegation, as well as the Filipino sports icons and legends who graced the event and whose presence not only delighted the crowd but gave inspiration to all regional athletes, including 1,868 local athletes,” the Malacanang official added.
