President Rodrigo Duterte is set to appoint an acting Foreign Affairs Secretary today, after the Commission on Appointments rejected the appointment of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay.
Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella made the confirmation that the Office of the Executive Secretary will have a meeting with the DFA for the appointment of an acting Secretary.
The announcement will happen within the day.
Fifteen members of the CA committee rejected Yasay’s appointment because on the controversial issue of the DFA Secretary’s citizenship.
Meanwhile, President Duterte just named his second appointee for the Supreme Court.
The new Court of Appeals Associate Justice, Noel Tijam is a graduate of San Beda College.
Prior to Tijam’s appointment, Duterte already appointed Sandiganbayan Justice Samuel Martirez in exchange of Associate Justice Jose Perez, who retired last March 2.
Under the Constitution, the President should find a replacement for a retired Associate Justice within 90 days.
