The camp of outgoing Tourism Sec. Wanda Tulfo – Teo refuted reports that she was dismissed by President Rodrigo Duterte, and insisted that she voluntarily resigned.

In a clarification letter, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, lawyer of Teo, said that Executive Sec. Salvador Medialdea already had the resignation letter of Teo, even before the Cabinet meeting last May 7.

After the Cabinet meeting, Teo also had a one-on-one meeting with the President.

According to Topacio, Teo decided to resign after ‘a long and deliberate reflection and soul searching with respect to the events that have transpired in the past few weeks’.

Recently, Teo was placed under controversy after the Commission on Audit (COA) discovered that the DOT paid Php 6 million for the airing of the agency advertisements in the television program of her siblings Ben and Erwin Tulfo.

The Tulfo brothers are blocktimers in the state-run People’s Television Network (PTV-4).

However, Topacio said that Teo insists that ‘she has done no wrongdoing and that all the dealings of the DOT went through all legal processes, were above-board and done in good faith, and with total absence of malice’.

In a press briefing in Malacanang, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that Medialdea already had the resignation letter of Teo before the Presidential Cabinet meeting.

Roque also revealed that the President has already accepted the resignation of Teo.

Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Sec. Martin Andanar, manager of PTV-4, refused to comment on the issue.
