The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) immediately quashed the suggestion to move the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, in relation with its issue on the controversial Torre De Manila construction.

NCAA Legal counsel Trixie Cruz-Angeles emphasized that the location of a statue has a meaning.  Therefore, this is the main reason why we shouldn’t change the position of the monument, as per the suggestion of Manila Rep. Amado Bagatsing.

According to Bagatsing, the Rizal Monument may take an about face towards the Torre de Manila, so that there won’t be any issue of the said building blocking the view of the Rizal monument.

Angeles insisted that we should respect the history and personality of our national here, and changing its direction for mere business interest is a no-no.
