The Philippines will have stricter qualifications for athletes that will represent the country in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
According to Philippine Chef De Mission Julian Camacho, only Filipino athletes that are proven capable of contending for a medal will represent the country in the multi-sports event that will start on August 18 and will end on September 2.
Camacho said that only gold and silver medalists in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games will be assured of a spot in the 2018 Asian Games
Camacho added that it will be a waste of funds if the athletes will just act as tourists instead of trying their best to win medals.
However, the Philippine Olympic Committee also clarified that bronze medalists from the 2017 SEA Games can still be given a slot if they prove their worth in other tournaments.
During the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia, the Philippines was able to win 24 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 64 bronze medals.
