MWSS announces hike in water charges

The weakening of peso will soon start having its effect in the water charges.

Aside from energy hike, the Maynilad and Manila Water announced the water charges hike.

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), said the increase is due to the ‘Foreign currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) or weakening of the peso value.

The water charges hike is equivalent to the mixed FCDA for the first and second quarter of the year.

MWSS explained that it did not approve the price adjustment which was earlier proposed by Manila Water for the first quarter. The said proposal should have an additional 70 centavos per cubic meter and Maynilad for 37 centavos per cubic meter.

Due to this, there will be a higher increase for water charges due to combined amount of FCDA in mentioned quarters.

MWSS announced that the water charges hike will take effect in the coming days.
