More than 4,000 Japan-made rails, each measuring 18 meter-long, for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) have arrived on Tuesday, July 9 at the Port of Manila.

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the arrival of the 4,053 pieces of rails at the Harbour Centre Port Terminal was months ahead of the expected delivery date. It will be brought to the Tracks Laydown Yard near the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

The installation of said rails will take place starting November since the remaining rails are still expected to arrive in October.

DOTr added that the new rails will reduce the excess vibration of trains which cause damage to electrical and mechanical components.

As per the MRT management, the rail replacement will take place during non-operating hours to avoid the disruption of the line’s daily operations.
