Lead actress Mary Joy Apostol on Wednesday was named Best Actress at the ASEAN film awards in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Apostol starred at the hit mystery-thriller film “Birdshot” which was directed by internationally recognized Mikhail Red.
The film tells a story of a young farm girl who unintentionally kills a critically-endangered Philippine Eagle. Her inadvertent action, later on, creates a domino effect which showcased hypocrisy, the value of human life, and integrity.
Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairperson Liza Diño-Seguerra on her Facebook account confirmed the news as she congratulated Apostol.
“They once again soared high! Congratulations to Mary Joy Apostol of Birdshot directed by Mikhail Red for winning the Best Actress Award in the 1st ASEAN Film Awards in Da Nang, Vietnam,” Liza said.
Other winners include “A Yellow Bird” and its lead star, Sivakumar Palakrishnan, who bagged Best Male Actor and Best Picture.
“Birdshot” has been named as the Philippines’ official entry in the 90th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category.
The Oscars will be held on March 4, 2018 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
