Malacañang has selected Bb. Joyce Bernal on Thursday to spearhead the production of the third State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, as per Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.
Prior to Bernal, the award-winning director Brillante Mendoza was the one who was responsible in directing the previous two SONAs for the Duterte administration.
In the previous SONA, Mendoza drew flock from the crowd after he manifested creative shots, switching between extreme close-ups and eye-level shots. The wide variety of artistic shots featured on the national live broadcast of the SONA included lens flares, slow camera panning, and close-ups, which also drew praises and criticisms from the netizens.
Andanar also shared that it was actor Robin Padilla, known for being a Duterte supporter, who requested for Bernal to direct this year’s state address.
Bb. Joyce Bernal is known for directing several blockbuster films and dramas such as the Kimmy Dora series, “The Super Parental Guardians,” ‘Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo,” and “Don’t Give Up On Us.” She also directed the remake of some TV dramas such as the adaptation of some foreign series including “My Love From the Star,” “Marimar” and “Dyesebel.”
Duterte is set to deliver his third SONA at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on July 23, the opening of the third and last regular session of the 17th Congress.
