LRT-2 resumes operations after late night collision of trains

The Light Rail Transist System Line 2 (LRT-2) resumed their operations on Sunday, May 19, after the collision of two trains between Anonas and Cubao stations.

Authorities removed the two trains involved in the collision and cleared the rails before resuming operations at 10:47AM. Only five trains are currently running.

30 passengers and four personnel were injured during the collision of two trains along the LRT Line-2 at 9:51 pm on Saturday, May 18.

Light Rail Transit Authority spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera explained that a dead train or a defective train parked at a pocket track between Anonas and Katipunan stations moved and entered the main line.

The dead train then hit head-on an incoming train from Cubao station.

For unknown reasons, gumalaw ito (dead train) pumunta siya sa main line, pasalubong doon sa train coming from Cubao station,” Cabrera told reporters.

The train coming from Cubao station was immediately informed na may run-away train. So immediately tumigil yung train galing Cubao. But yung run-away train patuloy na bumangga,” Cabrera added.

The LRT-2 management assured that they will investigate the incident.
