The House of Representatives held a necrological service on Monday, Jan. 14, for the late Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe, who was murdered in December.

The slain congressman’s wife Gertie Batocabe and their two sons atty. Jhustine Batocabe and Khiel Batocabe attended the necrological service at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

Kabalikat ng Mamayan (KABAYAN) Partylist Rep. Paul Hernandez led the invocation that was followed by a requiem mass in the plenary.

House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, House Minority leader Danilo Suarez, Deputy Speaker Sharon Garin, former 1-Consumers Alliance for Rural Energy (CARE) Partylist Rep. Michael Rivera, Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr., former Associate Justice Vicente Mendoza, and atty. John Reyes delivered eulogies for the late lawmaker.

The House of Representatives offered legislative memorabilia and flowers for Rep. Batocabe, whose remains were laid to rest on the eve of New Year’s Day, Dec. 31 at the Daraga Public Cemetery in Legazpi City, Albay.

The Philippine National Police has filed murder charges against Daraga mayor Carlwyn Baldo, the suspected mastermind behind the death of Rep. Batocabe and his security aide SPO2 Orlando Diaz.

Six prime suspects already surrendered to authorites, and they further implicated the mayor to the crime.

Baldo meanwhile, denied the allegation that he ordered the killing of Batocabe.  The latter filed his Certificate of Candidacy for mayorship of Daraga in the coming 2019 midterm elections.
