Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed that former Marawi City Mayor Fahad Umpac Salic is listed as one of the people allegedly helping the Maute terror group in spreading terrorism.
Operatives of the Philippine National Police Region 10 were able to arrest Salic at a checkpoint in Barangay San Martin, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental last June 7.
During an exclusive interview, Sec. Lorenzana, administrator of the Martial Law in Mindanao, said that Salic is one of the people he ordered authorities to arrest.
According to the Defense Secretary, the Maute family is connected by affinity to Salic since Rasmia, wife of the former mayor, is a cousin of the Maute brothers, Omarkhayam Maute and Abdullah Maute.
Lorenzana also revealed that they continue to process and arrest other narco-politicians, influential clans, and local officials in Mindanao that are allegedly supporting the Maute group.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of the PNP Region-10, said that a ford ranger with a plate number 1151 was seized from Salic.
Salic has also denied the allegations of the government regarding rebellion.
