LIST OF WINNERS | ‘John Denver Trending’ wins big in Cinemalaya 2019

The 15th season of the much-anticipated Cinemalaya has finally concluded on Sunday, August 12 with the blockbuster film ‘John Denver Trending‘ sweeping major awards including the Best Film of the year.

The directorial debut of Arden Rod Condez definitely brought heights during the annual indie film competition as it enticed the audience with the life of John Denver Cabungcal, a teenage boy who has been caught in the frenzy of being bullied in social media.

Indeed, Condez’ film undoubtedly gained the respect of the public as it swept off major awards such as Best Original Music Score, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Actor for Jansen Magpusao, NETPAC Jury Award, and Best Film.

On the other hand, Theodore Boborol’s ‘ISKA‘ also became a top-contender during the week-long cinema festivities. In her debut film as the main actress, Ruby Ruiz was named as the Best Actress as she successfully portrayed the rolf of Iska, an impoverished grandmother of an autistic 10-year-old boy.

In a historic gathering, Cinemalaya Festival Director Chris Millado said that over 55,000 audiences were able to attend the Cinemalaya Film Festival 2019, which prompted to at least 25% in the total revenue of the festivity.

Also, the films Belle Douleur of Jojo Alonzo and Malamaya (The Color of Ash) of Danica Sta. Lucia and Leilani Chavez will be up for commercial release this year.
