First timers Ligao National High School Children’s Chorus took home the crown in the recently concluded 2017 Manila Broadcasting Company’s National Choral Competition.
During the grand finals on December 9, the choral group from Albay out-performed three other choral groups in order to grab the trophy and the 100,000 cash prize.
According to Celger Venzon, the group’s conductor, they did not expect to win the first competition that they have joined. He explained that they only joined the tournament for the experience.
“Hindi namin in-expect na makukuha namin. Pumunta kami rito for experience. Pumunta kami rito para ma-expose yung mga bata.” Venzon told DZRH
The conductor also admitted that they felt overwhelmed and happy with their victory
Venzon also revealed that they plan to save the cash prize to give their members a chance to ride an airplane and that they also seek to join international tournaments.
“Siguro iipunin na muna namin para makatapak at makasakay na rin itong mga bata na ito sa eroplano.” The conductor said
Meanwhile, Venzon revealed the reason behind a small statue that they have brought to their performance.
He said that the figure is an image of Inang Penafrancia in Naga, which they affectionally called Ina, and they always pray to her for the success of their performance.
The conductor further added that they always bring the figure to their travels for guidance.
“Siya ang parati namin kasama sa every travel namin, kasama namin si Ina, para at least na-guguide niya kami.” Venzon revealed. “Lagi kami nag-prapray sa kanya na sana every performances namin maging maayos and at least maging masaya ang nanood at nakikinig sa amin.”
The second-place, meanwhile, was taken by two-time champion Boscorale. Third place was given to Pasig Catholic College Children’s Choir, and fourth place is Tarlac National Highschool S.P.A Music Chorale.
