A leak that developed in the main pipe line of Maynilad Water Services Inc. is affecting more than 200,000 clients of the water service provider in Southern Manila, and Cavite.

According to Jennifer Rufo, assistant vice-president for corporate communication of Maynilad, a blow-off valve of their 1.4m diameter primary line along Coastal Road was damaged, suspected to be due to water pressure, around 6:15 am.

Rufo explained that the said valve was exposed since it was scheduled to be re-aligned on March 7 due to the road widening in the Manila-Cavite Expressway.

Rufo assured that the damage wasn’t big and that Maynilad has been deploying 44 water tankers in order to provide clean water to their affected customers, upon their request.

The affected areas include Las Pinas City, Cavite City, Bacoor City, Imus City, Kawit City and the municipalities of Rosario and Noveleta.

Based on the latest advisory of Maynilad, the repairs is extended until 1:00AM, March 06.

Rufo also explained that, after the repairs, affected customers will still have to wait two more hours before water returns to their area since the damaged pipe line was de-watered.

“Dahil dinewater siya, it will take time for the water to build-up.” Rufo said during DZRH’s Makabagong Bayanihan.
