The province of Laguna was declared under a state of calamity following Tropical Depression “Maring” heavy downpour and strong winds.
According to Rommel Palacol of the provincial government’s Action Center, the declaration was made on Wednesday afternoon after Laguna met the requirements which allowed the province to use its calamity fund.
Heavy raining from Monday until Tuesday caused flash floods, landslides, and brought about 1,627 families running to evacuation centers.
Palaco added Tropical Depression “Maring” caused an estimate of Php 12 million in damage to public roads and infrastructure and another Php 6.7 million worth of damage to agriculture.
Authorities, so far, have only identified one fatality, but are currently searching for five more missing people after an inflated river in Calamba City swept away an entire house.
