The Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles remain alive in UAAP women’s volleyball finals after beating University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses in four sets 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, and 25-15 on Wednesday, May 15, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Maddie Madayag scored 17 points and team captain Bea De Leon added 13 points for the Eagles to tie the Best-of-Three Final series, 1-1, and end the Tigresses’ winning streak.
Ateneo grabbed a 12-point advantage, 20-8, at the start of the fourth quarter. However, the Tigresses cut difference down to eight, 21-13, before a block from Madayag brought the Eagles’ lead back to double digits, 23-13.
The season’s Most Valubale Cherry ‘Sisi’ Rondina provided 22 points while Rookie of the Year Eya Laure finished with 10, even after injuring her left ankle at the middle of the third quarter.
It’s a do-or-die match for the lady eagles and the Tigresses on Saturday, 4pm at the SM Mall of Asia Arena to decide if the crown will finally makes it back Espana or will the ladies from Katipunan bring it home with them.
