The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) will monitor the latest attacks on radio journalists, recently in Davao and Iloilo.
The latest fatality, 19th in the Aquino administration, Rogelio “Tata” Butalid, a block timer for 107.9 FM Radyo Natin, was killed in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Wednesday morning just after his radio public service program.
Butalid was shot by unidentified man who approached him when he was about to board his motorcycle outside the Leonardia Building, witnesses said.
KBP legal counsel and spokesman Atty. Reji Jularbal said the KBP will monitor the incidents until authorities solve the attacks on media men.
Butalid’s killing came after two of his colleagues, radio personality, Michael Milo, in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur province, and another radioman, Joas Dignos, in Valencia City, Bukidnon province, a week before.
The night before Butalid’s death, radioman Jonavin “Jhey-R” Villalba of dyOK Aksyon Radyo Iloilo was attacked in front of his home in Iloilo City. He is now in stable condition.
The killing of Butalid is also the third in two weeks.
