The Kabalikat ng Mamayan (KABAYAN) Partylist appealed for the National Food Authority (NFA) to establish privilege lanes so that senior citizens  will not have to wait in long queues in order to buy cheap rice.

According to KABAYAN Partylist Rep. Ciriaco Calalang, Bigasang Bayan outlets should have priority lanes for senior citizens and people with disabilities (PWDs) due to their age and impairments.

The 66-year old congressman made this request amidst media reports that people have to stand in line for five hours in order to buy NFA rice in Bigasang Bayan outlets.

Based on reports, people have been flocking to stores selling cheap NFA rice, priced at Php 27 per kilogram, after the price of commercial rice skyrocketed up to Php 70 to Php 80 per kilogram.
