Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is in the country for his two-day official visit to the Philippines.
His plane landed at Villamor Airbase around 2:40pm. Accompanied by his wife, Akie Abe, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the representatives from Malacanang. He was whisked off immediately to Malacanang for his welcome ceremony and meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte.
In their joint statement, Duterte said that some of the issued that they discussed included maritime security, pushing for long-term peace in Mindanao and investment opportunities for the two countries.
Duterte also mentioned that Prime Minister Abe confirmed Japan’s support on the country’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs.
Prime Minister Abe is the first world leader to visit the Philippines under the Duterte administration. His visit came three months after Duterte had his official visit to Japan.
