The 7-foot-1 American basketball player Isaiah Austin arrived in the Philippines yesterday.

Austin is one of the prospects to be Gilas Pilipinas’ import for the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup that will happen in Chenzhou, China this September 22 to 30.

Austin is expected to attend his first practice with the Philippine Men’s National Basketball team this September 13 at the Meralco Gym. Gilas Coach Chot Reyes also revealed that they are still studying whether to naturalize Austin.

Austin was supposed to be drafted by the NBA last 2015. However, his basketball career was suspended after being diagnosed with the genetic disorder Marfan Syndrome.

Last November 2016, Austin was given clearance to once again play basketball. Recently, he has played for the Serbian Basketball Club KK FMP Beograd and the Guangxi Rhinos in the China Basketball League.
