Invasion of foreign acts in Manila’s concert scene

Get ready people, learn to save up or else you’ll be missing in on some awesome concerts coming in this second quarter of the year.

Former Disney star Demi Lovato is in town for her “Demi Lovato World Tour” happening tomorrow at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

This is the second time that Lovato will be performing for her Filipino fans.

The Backstreet Boys, bridging generations since their Philippine debut in the early 2000s are back on May 5 with their “In A World Like This Tour”.  Brian, AJ, Nick, Kevin, and Howie will definitely be singing songs from their recent albums and hits from their past like “Quit Playing Games With My Heart”, “I’ll Never Break your Heart”, among others.

A few days after their performance comes the ever-energetic Katy Perry who will be performing at the Philippine Arena on May 7.  Katy’s “Prismatic World Tour” is nothing like her first concert where it spells very “California girl.”  This time, expect and fiercer and bolder Katy.

Crooner Sam Smith will make you fall in love all over again comes May 10 as he serenade Filipino fans with hits after hits at the MOA Arena.  Tickets have been sold out already.

Broadway diva Idina Menzel will be captivating her Filipino fans on June 7, with “Idina Menzel Live in Manila” at the MOA Arena.

Menzel is known to the young ones as the voice of the Elsa from the Disney cult-hit “Frozen”.  However, even before she got famous for playing Rachel Berry’s mother in “Glee”, Idina has been taken Broadway by storm.  She’s the persona behind Maureen Johnson in “Rent” and she defied gravity as Elphaba in “Wicked.”

For Kpop fanatics, two famous Kpop groups will be making waves and pandemonium in the coming weeks.  This Saturday, May 2, VIXX will capture not just the hearts of their loyal starlights, but definitely will earn additional fans as they bring to Manila their “VIXX Live Fantasia in Manila Eutopia” at the MOA Arena.

World-sensation Big Bang is back with a new album and a world tour.  Coinciding with the promo of their album “Made” is the release of the list of the countries they’ll be stopping for their world tour, and Philippines is definitely one of them.  We’ll be seeing Top, G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri very soon.

However, for die-hard OPM fans out there, the Urbandub farewell concert should be one for the books.  On May 9, at the Metrotent Convention Center, the group will have their last performance before they go their separate ways.

Summer has just started and as the country experience the wrath of El Nino, the concert scene will be bringing in more heat, so better gear up.
