The Integrated Bar of the Philippines warned President Rodrigo Duterte regarding his recent statement against lawyers representing drug lords in the country.

According to the IBP, Duterte’s statement could possibly bring a chilling effect on lawyers.

The IBP insisted that it is the right of lawyers to decide if they will accept a case, without any prejudice and fear.

Aside from the fact that the accused has the right to have someone defend them in court, it is part of the sworn duty of each IBP member to defend their clients.

This was the reaction of the IBP amid Duterte’s statement that his next target in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs are the lawyers who use the judicial process to defend their clients and have them continue with their illegal drugs operations.
