Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone said that he feels happy to be appointed as head coach of the Philippine National Men’s Basketball team even if it’s just for the 2019 South East Asian (SEA) Games.
“Even though my appointment is just a stop gap measure and a short term commitment, I am incredibly honored and proud to be selected to coach in the SEA Games,” Cone said in a statement.
The winningest coach of the PBA said that he will sit down withe Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in the next couple of days and ‘come up with a plan of attack in terms of preparation’ for the upcoming sports event.
Cone also hopes to have a pool of players working together at full force by the end of the week.
“I’m extremely excited to get going,” the veteran coach of the Gin Kings added.
SBP President Al Panlilio confirmed on Monday, Sept. 23, that Cone has accepted the position of head coach for Gilas Pilipinas for the multi-sports tournament that Philippines will host from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
Panlilio also stressed that the arrangement of Cone calling the shots for the national team is only for the SEA Games for now.
