Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz won three silver medals in the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships on Monday, April 22, in Ningbo, China.
The Filipina weightlifter grabbed second place in the women’s 55 kg division after carrying 94 kilograms in the snatch portion and 115 kilograms in the clean and jerk portion to garner a total of 209 kilograms.
Liao Qiuyun of China seized the gold medal for the weight division after lifting 96 kilograms in snatch and 128 kilograms in clean and jerk to garner a total of 224 kilograms.
Qiuyun also set a new world record for the clean and jerk lift of the 55 kg women’s division after beating the 127 kg mark.
The achievements of Diaz in the tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, brings her closer to a fourth appearance in the Olympics.
Meanwhile, Mary Flor Diaz of the Philippines also won two bronze medals in the tournament, which runs from April 17 until April 29, after lifting a total of 158 kilograms in the women’s 45 kg division and 89 kilograms in the clean and jerk category of her weight class.
