Coach Joseller ‘Yeng’ Guiao promised to unveil soon the line-up of the Philippine national men’s basketball team, also known as Gilas Pilipinas, for the fourth window of 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Guiao was chosen to replace national team head coach Vincent ‘Chot’ Reyes as he serves the one-game suspension imposed to him by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
According to Guiao, he already has a line-up in mind but they are still studying the situation of Fil-foreign players Christian Standhardinger, Greg Slaughter, and Stanley Pringle.
“Meron na line up but there are still uses that prevent me from making the final lineup. We have to research on the situation of Greg Slaughter, Christian Standhardinger, and Stanley Pringle,” Guiao said.
“If we are not able to fix the documents of Greg lalong hihirap yung situation natin because we have to choose between those three guys. Two who we will designate as our naturalized players,” Guiao added.
Slaughter has been completing several documents that will make him eligible to play as a local-player of the Philippines in FIBA tournaments.
Aside from the three players, the 16-man Gilas Pilipinas player pool for the country’s upcoming games in the Asian Qualifiers include Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, Gabe Norwood, Raymond Almazan, Beau Belga, Paul Lee, Ian Sangalang, JP Erram, Allein Maliksi, Asi Taulava, and Matthew Wright.
In their next games, Gilas Pilipinas will be traveling to Iran to face the country’s home-team on September 13, before the Philippine team hosts a game against Qatar on September 17.
