The Philippine national men’s basketball team won their tune-up game against, Congo, 102-80, on Wednesday, August 7, at the Palacio Multiusos de Guadalajara in Spain.
Naturalized player Andray Blatche finished with 25 points while Japeth Aguilar and Mark Barocca scored 22 points and 16 points, respectively, to lead the locals of Gilas Pilipinas Men.
The Philippine squad immediately asserted their dominance against the Congolese team and took a 13-point lead, 32-19, to end the first quarter.
Congo cut the point difference to nine, 53-44, at the second period but Gilas Pilipinas regained their momentum in the third quarter and brought their lead back to double digits, 84-60, as the game entered the final period.
The Philippine team will have another tune-up game against Ivory Coast as part of their 10-day training camp in Guadalajara, Spain before participating in a mini-pocket tournament in Malaga.
The Filipinos will face the Congonese squad in the tournament before testing their skills against the victor of the game between Ivory Coast and Spain.
