The Philippine National Men’s Basketball Team has started their daily and closed door practices for the second round of qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The practice of Gilas Pilipinas on February 12 was also the team’s first practice with 6’11 naturalized player Andray Blatche, who arrived in the country last February 9 after getting an early release from his Chinese Basketball team Xinjiang Flying Tigers.
During the practice in Greenhills’ West Gym, only Troy Rosario was absent among the Gilas player pool since the Talk N’ Text Katropa star is still recovering from an injury cause by a bad fall in their PBA game against Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Alaska Aces’ Calvin Abueva, and Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ Raymond Almazan were also present even if Gilas coach Chot Reyes has announced their removal from the player pool for the upcoming games due to being absent in the team’s first practices.
Gilas is set to face the Australian team on Feb 22, followed by team Japan on Feb. 25.
Winning the next two games will bring Gilas closer to qualifying in the 2019 Basketball World Cup, which will be hosted by China.
