The Philippine National Men’s Basketball team, also known as Gilas Pilipinas, took home the victory during their final tune-up game against Jordan on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
The game ended in an unexpected way with the Jordanian team walking out of the court at the 6:26 mark of the fourth quarter. Gilas was leading nine points, 82-73, when the game was stopped.
Prior the walk-out, Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao had an altercation with Jordanian coach Joey Stiebing.
Jordan won the previous tune-up game, 98-92, last Monday, Nov. 19, also at the Meralco Gym. The tune-up games with Jordan are part of the Philippines’ preparations for the fifth window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
For the upcoming window, Gilas will host games against Kazakhstan on Nov. 30 and Iran on Dec. 03 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
The Philippine team will still have back-to-back tune-up games with Lebanon on Friday, Nov. 23, and on Sunday, Nov. 25. Both games will happen at the Meralco Gym.
