The Philippine National Men’s Basketball team failed to defeat Canada in their first game in the continuing 2017 William Jones Cup in Taiwan.

Canada defeated Gilas Pilipinas with a score of 90-77.

The Canadian team was well represented with seven-footer Dallin Bachynski, NBA D-league veteran Diego Kapelan, and Dwayne Smith.

The team is being mentored by reigning coach of the year Kyle Julius.

The Philippines is the defending champion of the Jones Cup and most of its players are amateur stars and Gilas Cadet players, including Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, Jio Jalalon, and Roger Pogoy

They are joined by American import Mike Myers and Filipino – German player Christian Standhardinger.

However, the Philippines remains hopeful in winning the tournament since they still have eight remaining games.
