Gilas Pilipinas ended up winless in the 2019 FIBA World Cup after losing to Iran, 95-75, on Sunday, September 8, at the Wukesong Sport Arena in Beijing, China.

Hamed Haddadi scored 19 points and Mohammadsamad Nik Khahbahrami added 17 points for Iran to not only seize the victory but also an outright berth to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The Philippine National Men’s Basketball team kept the game close at the first quarter, which ended 30-24 in favor of Iran. However, the Filipinos got limited to only 10 points in second period which allowed their opponents to widen the lead, 48-34, at the end of the first half.

The woes of Gilas, who trailed behind by 29 points at most, worsened after naturalized player Andray Blatche was ejected for successive technical fouls late in the fourth quarter.

PBA rookie Robert Bolick scored 15 points while Blatche finished with 12 points to lead the Philippine team, which could finish in 32nd place out of the 32 countries in the tournament after losing all five of their games.
