IBF Superflyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is likely to have his next fight in July against a fellow countryman.
According to reports, the fighter from Davao is set to have a mandatory defense bout against Filipino boxer Jonas Sultan, who is currently the no.1 contender for the IBF Superflyweight division.
Sultan earned the chance to seize the belt from Ancajas after the fighter from Cebu defeated another Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero in September, 2017.
There is a large chance that the bout between the two Filipino fighters will happen in the United States of America.
This will be the first time that two Filipino boxers will be fighting each other for a world title since the 1995 bout between challenger Erwin Villaver and the WBF Welterweight champion William ‘The Black Mamba’ Magahin.
Last February 4, Ancajas made a successful fourth title defense after defeating Mexican boxer Israel Gonzales in a fight that happened in Corpus Christi, Texas.
