Filipina beauty queen Karen Ibasco is crowned as the 2017 Miss Earth this November 4. She succeeded 2016 Miss Katherine Espin of Ecuador during the grand coronation ceremony at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
During the question and answer portion, the judges were amazed with Karen’s response when asked who or what is the enemy of the Earth. The representative of the Philippines said that, rather than climate change, the enemy of the Earth is ignorance and apathy.
According to Karen, change must start within the people, and that we should assist one another in saving the Earth.
The Filipina beauty queen also won gold medals for the National Costume, Swimsuit, and Darling of the Press. She also got silver medals in the Resorts Wear and Long Gown competition.
The last time the Philippines won the Miss Earth pageant was in 2015 with Angelia Ong succeeding 2014 Miss Earth and fellow Filipina Jamie Herrel.
Karen is the fourth Filipina to be crowned Miss Earth, with 2008 Miss Earth Karla Henry being the first.
