Former Senator Orlando ‘Orly’ Mercado considers late broadcaster Jose Malgapo Taruc Jr., popularly known as Joe Taruc, as a brother.
Ex-Sen. Mercado revealed that Taruc was the first person he visited after being freed during the 1970’s Martial Law.
Mercado said while reminiscing about Taruc.
Taruc also frequently told his fellow broadcasters his experience with late President Ferdinand Marcos during the Martial Law.
Ex-Pres. Marcos got upset with Taruc for the broadcaster’s persistent question regarding the ‘golden buddha’ which is allegedly part of the legendary ‘Yamashita Treasure’ during the World War II.
The Yamashita treasure was reported to have been acquired by the Marcos family.
