Sen. Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri is imploring the Department of Interior and Local Government to make an example and file charges against village officials that are allegedly protectors or are involved in illegal drugs operations.
According to Zubiri, this is the proper time to file charges, especially since President Rodrigo Duterte has been saying that many village officials are included in the drug lists submitted to him.
The senator explained that this will serve as warning so that voters will not vote election candidates that are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Zubiri added that the DILG should have filed charges a long time ago so that voters will be cautioned even before the candidates of the village elections and youth council elections started filing their Certificates of Candidacy (CoC).
The lawmaker also believes that it is the proper time for the DILG to publicize their list of drug personalities, on the condition that the said lists are verified.
Last April 14, politicians have been going to offices of the Commission on Elections in order to file their CoCs for the upcoming local elections on May 14
