President Rodrigo Duterte warned Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa not to continue to be a protector of those in the illegal drug trade.
During a media briefing at the airport on Wednesday, the President said that if Espinosa continues to coddle drug dealers and users, he will personally bring the mayor to a plaza and hang him for the public to see.
Duterte said that if there is any concrete evidence that Espinosa continues to be involved in illegal drugs, that would mean that the mayor was only fooling him by promising to back the campaign against illegal drugs.
Previous presidents only gave warnings to drug lords, but did not do anything to put an end with their operations, Duterte said.
Prior to this, Espinosa appeared before Philippine National Police Chief Dir. Gen. Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa after he was given a 24-hour deadline by the President.
His son, Kerwin, remains at large. Authorities suspect that Kerwin is the number one drug supplier in Eastern Visayas.
Police confiscated Php88 million worth of shabu and high caliber guns during a recent raid at the house of the elder Espinosa.
