The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday announced that a total of 140 buses will be deployed during the maintenance shutdown of the Metro Rail Transit-3 during the observance of the Holy Week.
The inter-agency task force led by the DOTr would deploy buses from 5 AM to 9 PM starting today, April 15 (Holy Monday) until April 21 (Easter Sunday)in order “to ensure the mobility of commuters in Metro Manila.” The participating bus units will follow the MRT-3 route, both northbound and southbound. The north and south staging areas will be located at West Avenue corner EDSA in Quezon City and Roxas Boulevard corner EDSA, Pasay City, respectively.
Also, bus fares will be based on the fare matrix of the MRT-3, provided that the commuter’s destination is anywhere along the MRT-3 line. Meanwhile, destinations beyond the line will follow the normal bus fares.
“Some of the major works to be conducted include the replacement of critical turnouts or switches, rail grinding, structural testing, topographic survey, and monitoring plan activities for MRT-3 structures,” DOTr said.
MRT-3 operations will return to normal on April 22, Monday, at 5:30 AM.
