Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat suspended the implementation of the Tourism Promotion Board’s (TPB) project led by the actor Cesar Montano.
The Php320-million project will be reviewed by the Commission on Audit (COA) because it did not not undergo the process of public bidding.
The ‘Buhay Carinderia’ and other projects of the TPB were put on hold after Puyat learned during his meeting with Montano that the program was done through several “sponsorships”.
The issue became after controversial after it was discovered that a Php80-million payment was allegedly made to a certain Linda Legaspi for the Buhay Carinderia project, even if it has not yet started.
Puyat also said that Montano has already submitted a list detailing the status of projects that did not go through bidding and wrote a letter to COA Chairman Michael Aguinaldo requesting for reviews.
Puyat believes that Montano’s intentions were good, however, she wants all the bidding and transaction inside her department to be transparent.
Montano agreed to stop all their projects that did not undergo bidding and wrote a letter, dated May 15 saying that he is willing to review current programs.
