The Department of Tourism has confirmed that the prestigious Miss Universe pageant will not be staged in the Philippines this year.
According to newly appointed Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, we don’t have enough funds to host another Miss Universe pageant, especially this year.
Romulo-Puyat added that the country was the pageant’s host in 2016, it would be best for the DOT to focus on other events that will help boost our Tourism industry.
The DOT official said that the Philippines is not closing its doors in hosting another Miss U pageant, just not this year.
Prior to this, there have been reports that hosting the Miss Universe pageant in Boracay when it re-opens after its six-month rehabilitation will help in bringing back the said island as one of the world’s best tourist destinations.
