The Department of Interior and Local Government has mobilized local government units in order to ensure the safety of the public during the Holy Week.
DILG Officer-In-Charge Eduardo Año gave a directive for local officials to order their peace and order councils to prepare for the influx of people participating in various religious activities.
Año also ordered authorities to intensify their deployment for the Holy Week, particularly in crime-prone areas.
The DILG official insisted that the LGUs should strengthen their coordination with the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and other security and law enforcement agencies in order to ensure the safety of the public.
Año also pointed out that the Holy Week coincides with the end of the school year, wherein students and professionals take vacations and holiday breaks and that a ‘heavy movement of people’ is expected.
