An official of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that they can recommend for the Department of Education (DepEd) to suspend school regulations requiring female students to wear skirts, and instead have them wear pants.

DILG Usec. Epimaco Densing said that the suggestion is in line with the 4S strategy of the Department of Health (DOH) against Dengue.

The 4S strategy includes: search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; secure self-protection by wearing long sleeves, long pants, and using insect repellents; seek early consultation; and support fogging only in hotspot areas.

Kasama ito sa 4S nila, yung self-protection. Yung paglalagay ng pantalon, paglalagay ng mosquito repellent. Pwede natin iyan i-suggest sa Department of Education,” Densing said during DZRH’s Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.

The DOH, the Office of Civil Defense, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on August 6 declared a state of national epidemic because of the increasing number of dengue cases all over the Philippines.

DOH Sec. Francisco Duque said that they have recorded 146,062 dengue cases and 622 deaths due to the mosquito carried virus nationwide from January to July 20, 2019.
