The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday said that the small-scale barangays would now participate in the different programs and projects of the government.
Speaking at DZRH’s ACS Balita, DILG Undersecretary Martin Dino assured they will see to it that barangays around the country would involve themselves on government projects in a bid to monitor first hand its progress and quality.
According to Dino, they have already received the ‘go’ signal of President Rodrigo Duterte to implement and execute its task as well as the sanction to open the barangay to citizens’ complaints for a faster response.
“Yung mga barangay captain ibabalik na natin as in authority. Hindi sila pwedeng basta-bastahin,” Dino said.
“Ngayon, mag-o-open tayo ng complaint center para sa mga barangay,” he added.
The DILF Undersecretary also assured that the schedule 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will proceed as planned.
Meanwhile, DILG Chief Eduardo Ano said that the agency will be coming up with a list of qualities of a good barangay officials that may serve as a citizen’s guide in the forthcoming Barangay and SK elections.
Ano said that they will encourage the people to vote for officials who are “Matino, Mahusay and Maasahan.”
According to the DILG website, as of 2015, there is an estimate of 42,036 barangays nationwide.
