When talking about broadcasters with originality, Deo Macalma is among those on top of the list. He is one of the epitomes of success in the radio broadcast industry. Because of his amusing satirical commentaries and intriguing blind items that have become the hallmark of his career, his loyal listeners have stayed and surged throughout the decades since the onset of his broadcasting stint.
Many of his listeners are no aware that Lakay Deo – as he is fondly called – has a ‘rags to riches’ life story. Even after college, career ladder was never an easy climb for him. He entered DZRH as a newswriter, and from there, his skills were honed and he continued to strive for excellence.Lakay Deo soon rose to becoming the station’s Managing Editor and Assistant News Director. From gaining enough experience and expertise, he assumed the position of News Director. Now, he is the station’s Assistant Vice-President to Joe Taruc whom he was just once idolizing.
Lakay Deo currently tandems with Karen Ow-Yong in Isyu every 9 to 10:30 in the morning, and with Rica Herra in “Breaktime” every 4 to 5:30 in the afternoon. Both programs air on weekdays. He also co-anchors Joe Taruc in Pangunahing Balita on weekdays, from 7 to 7:30 in the morning. He reports his “Espesyal na Balita” from 7:30 to 8 in the morning, which also airs on weekdays.
