Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa on Friday vowed to have a bloodless operation as they reignite their controversial “Oplan Tokhang.”
According to Dela Rosa, the PNP would observe a strict implementation of the “knock-and-plead” strategy to calm the public as it returns on the administration’s war on drugs.
“Bloodless talaga ang Oplan Tokhang kasi ang spirit ng Tokhang kung iimplement mo properly is knock and plead lang. Katok at pakiusap. Wala ngang hulihan dito e,” PNP Chief told reporters.
The PNP Chief reiterated that the proper application of the Oplan Tokhang meant going door-to-door in a bid to allow drug users to voluntarily surrender themselves and turn a new leaf.
He emphasized that bloodshed shall no longer happen in the PNP’s campaign and subsequently asked for the public’s aid in coordinating with the government’s campaign.
Since it began in July 2016, over 3,800 suspects were killed during various anti-drug operations.
On Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque reiterated that the PNP role in the drug war was only to assist the Philippine Durg Enforcement Agency in its war on drugs.
